“I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.”

Toukoul

Every part of the world, every country, they all have their own cuisines and dishes. Have any of you ever tried the Ethiopian cuisine? I hadn’t until 2 years ago when I lived in Brussels. We went out for a goodbye party of a colleague and she had picked the restaurant Toukoul. Most of us had never tried any Ethiopian food so it was a bit of a guess, but it turned out to be delicious! Toukoul is situated at rue du Marronnier, which is close to Place Saint-Catherine, in the centre of Brussels. Easy to reach when you are in the city centre, so really no reason not go.

Borough Market

Time for another London post. There is simply so much to show and write about from this city. It is easily one of my favourite cities in Europe. I’ve already shared some foodie places from my visit to London and I want to add another one: Borough Market. British cuisine isn’t the most refined (or healthy) and I wouldn’t necessarily associate it with wholesome food or organic products. But they know their way around those kind of products on markets. Borough market is a good example.

Fortnum & Mason

Last week I already wrote about Choccywoccydoodah which is a shop on your “must visit” list if you have a sweet tooth. Don’t stop with one store! Fortnum & Mason is another you will want to try when you are in London. I’ll admit, bring a thick wallet, it’s not cheap to shop around here (though still les expensive than Harrods 😉 ). Tea, chocolates, cookies, wine, champagne, fruit, it’s all there and it all looks delicious (and I’m pretty sure it is too). I can at least vow for the quality of their shortbread biscuits!

Choccywoccydoodah

It’s been almost two weeks already again since I came back from my short get-a-way to London. I went over for four days to visit a close friend. She moved there in January so I had all reasons to go by and explore the city together (again). One of the places on our must vist list was Choccywoccydoodah – London’s chocolate heaven.

Choccywoccydoodah…TLC viewers will know what this is all about. This chocolate store started out in Brighton and since a couple of years they are also located in London. Why did I mention TLC? They have their own TV show which features all the crazy and delicious cakes they make. Choccywoccydoodah is famous for their sculpt and ruffle work from chocolate. I can guarentee you, you won’t be dissapointed seeing their creations!

Whiskey tasting

When you think about whisky you probably think about Scotland. And when you think about Scotland, no doubt whisky comes to mind as well. No surprises probably when I tell you we did a whisky tasting when we were in Scotland last year. I have to admit that I never tasted it before we went to Scotland, but the friend I travelled with had and she rightly so convinced me to have a sip 😉 The best way, like with any tasting of local products, is to go to the source – in this case a local brewery. Unfortunately, if you don’t have your own (rental) car in Scotland it is hard to reach most of those place. Edinburgh has a solution for this: The Scotch Whisky Experience.

Burger

I’m a sucker for a good burger. As a foodie I love trying new kinds of restaurants, experiment with dishes, and explore local food, but I will never turn down a tasty burger. Luckily, nowadays there are good burger restaurants around everywhere – no need to get a tasteless one at McDonalds. Nope, gourmet burgers are the way to go. I’ve written down a couple of my favourite burger places in Europe but I’m also curious about yours! Make sure to share them 🙂

The Dominican

The Dominican is a luxury hotel in the heart of Brussels. It’s located right behind “La Monnaie” in a quiet non-traffic street. It’s a beautiful design hotel with elements of the painter Jacques-Louis David (who used to live in the building) and the cloister it used to be; a combination of modern and historical elegance. The room rates of this great hotel are a little too high for my budget, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy it. Sometimes it seems that people think you can only go to a hotel’s restaurant or bar when you are staying there, but that is absolute nonsense. They love to have you over either way. Next time you visit Brussels, don’t skip the bar and/or restaurant of The Dominican.

Christmas marketTwo weeks ago I visited Cologne. I already blogged about the very impressive Kölner Dom but of course there is more to this city. I mostly went because of the Christmas market in Cologne. It might be a bit early to already start thinking about plans for next year around Christmas time, but if you like planning ahead you might already want to start considering going to Cologne at the end of the year! Seven different Christmas markets were taking place in Cologne and the nice thing is that each market has its own feel and look.

2015Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a great night and that 2016 has started off with a blast. Since it is the first week of 2016 I thought it was time to flashback to 2015 and have a little preview of what 2016 (hopefully) brings. This blog officially launched in October 2015 so of course that was a big highlight for me. I was so excited to get this baby going and together with my best friend (who did all the awesome designing and website building for me) I have been working on it for such a long time. And this year it finally launched!

seafoodinedinburghEdinburgh is situated right at the coast of Scotland. The city has its own harbour and is not unknown to fresh fish and seafood. Many restaurants serve fish and seafood. And no, I don’t mean fried fish at the pubs (which is a must try in the UK anyway at least once). During my visit to Edinburgh there were two fish/seafood dishes that I loved, thatyou should definitely consider trying too.
