“I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.”

Dreams It’s been a while since I’ve had this item on the blog but it’s back with a Cosplayer of the Month May. I love exploring the world of cosplay, even though I don’t really cosplay myself. But I wanted to put some people in the spotlight who do an amazing job with it but hardly get the attention they deserve. So every month I will put one cosplayer in the spotlight. Together with the cosplayer I will select my/their favourite cosplay and use that as a base to interview them! Cosplayer of May: Dreams Beyond Cosplay.

I already wrote about Knokke, a city at the Belgian coastline, before. This city is all about “seeing people and being seen”. Oostende is another city which is situated near the Belgian beaches, but it is completely different from Knokke. To me, Oostendeis much more down to earth. It doesn’t make it any less exciting to visit than Knokke, you just go there for other reasons.

Many blogs have already written about this hotspot in Amsterdam: HappyHappyJoyJoy – a restaurant owned by chef Julius Jaspers. HappyHappyJoyJoy serves dishes from a variety of cuisines, namely Malay, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Chinese, and Korean. And not only the dishes are from different countries, so are the drinks. And all of this is inspired by street food and shared dining – this screams like the perfect evening out, right? Last week I finally went there together with a friend, and jummy, really you need to go there the next time you visit Amsterdam.

Bucket lists are usually quite endless, so is mine. Whether it is regarding restaurants I still want to visit, countries I want to go to, or things I want to experience…almost every day I can add something new to the list. One thing that has been on the list for a long time is visiting an ice hotel or bar. In Sweden there is the amazing Iceotel in Jukkasjärvi, which is situated in the far north of Sweden. Founded in 1989 it is the world’s first hotel that was made out of snow and ice. Cool right? (Quite literally 😉 )

Last weekend I spend my Saturday at Elfia Haarzuilens to experience more of fantasy and cosplay. I’ve seen so many costumes, wow, amazing hand-made dresses, weapons, artifacts…and much more. I was at Elfia Haarzuilens with friends so it was a day full of laughter and fun. Photographing the costumes was of course also part of the deal!

Slowly, the sun is starting to show itself more. The temperature is creeping up a little bit and it is putting me in a pre-summer mood (yes, I know it’s only just spring!). Something that fits with all of this is the beach. Over the last two years I’ve visited many different spots at the Belgian coastline. All of them are situated in the same country, but all so clearly different from each other. Whether you are looking for a place to lay at the beach and relax or if you want to go to the best of the best beach club – Belgium has a place for you! I’ll spend a couple of blog posts on Belgian cities situated at the coast the upcoming time. First up: Knokke.

Every part of the world, every country, they all have their own cuisines and dishes. Have any of you ever tried the Ethiopian cuisine? I hadn’t until 2 years ago when I lived in Brussels. We went out for a goodbye party of a colleague and she had picked the restaurant Toukoul. Most of us had never tried any Ethiopian food so it was a bit of a guess, but it turned out to be delicious! Toukoul is situated at rue du Marronnier, which is close to Place Saint-Catherine, in the centre of Brussels. Easy to reach when you are in the city centre, so really no reason not go.

Dutch Comic Con

Argh, it took longer than expected. Sorry for that! I’ve finally sorted through all my photos and am very happy with the end results. I’ve got a variety of cosplayers captured over the weekend, as well as two photoshoots I did with cosplayers during the weekend. If I’ve taken any photo of you you would like to have, leave me a message or send me an e-mail, and I’ll be glad to send them over! All photos are on my Flickr account. I’ve had so much fun taking these photos, praise to all of the cosplayers for their awesome work! Can’t wait to take more at my next convention.

Will I see any of you end of this month at Elf Fantasy Fair (The Netherlands)?

Dutch Comic Con

You might have noticed on my social media channels already that I’ve spent my weekend at Dutch Comic Con in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. Dutch Comic Con is a convention for fans from TV-shows, movies, comics, books, anything fandom related. Several artists and actors were present at the con just as many different dealers. One of the goals of the weekend for me personally was to spend more time on cosplay photography. I took photos of a variety of cosplayers and did shoots with Dreams Beyond Cosplay and Lightened Skies Cosplay. I hope to sort through my photos this week so I can publish them online by the weekend!

Writing Inspiration

Anyone who has ever attempted to write a story will probably know that you can find writing inspiration in a great variety of places. You can draw from experiences, maybe you get inspiration when you visit a particular city, or see a photo which sparks your imagination. One of my favourite places to browse for writing inspiration – whether it is for a specific character or for that one abandoned building I’m writing about – is Pinterest.
