The Dominican – The heart of central Brussels

The Dominican

The Dominican is a luxury hotel in the heart of Brussels. It’s located right behind “La Monnaie” in a quiet non-traffic street. It’s a beautiful design hotel with elements of the painter Jacques-Louis David (who used to live in the building) and the cloister it used to be; a combination of modern and historical elegance. The room rates of this great hotel are a little too high for my budget, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy it. Sometimes it seems that people think you can only go to a hotel’s restaurant or bar when you are staying there, but that is absolute nonsense. They love to have you over either way. Next time you visit Brussels, don’t skip the bar and/or restaurant of The Dominican.

Maybe I’m a little biased when it comes to The Dominican, since I did my internship at the hotel for 6 months in 2014. But I’ve truly fallen in love with this hotel since I first set foot into it. My favourite part is without doubt the bar and restaurant. When the weather is better (I mean spring or summer time, not the cold/rainy/snowy weather we currently have in Europe) you should really go for a spot in the courtyard. The courtyard lies at the heart of the hotel, surrounded by the arches of the old cloister. A lovely quiet hotspot to enjoy the sun and sip a cocktail (or any other drink of course!).

The weather isn’t always perfect (unfortunately) so the lounge bar is a great alternative too for a drink. You really find the modern aspects in this part of the hotel, mixed with the historical aspects that make the hotel so charming. Go for a cocktail, nice cup of tea, or some nice snacks to still your hunger. They have an extensive food book as a menu so there is something for everyone. If you are looking for a spot to have lunch or dinner, make sure to go to the restaurant. It is nestled in the heart of the hotel and is an extension of the courtyard. Look up to the ceiling when you are in the restaurant, a stunning golden “sun” will greet you!

The beautiful logo of The Dominican will welcome you everywhere in the hotel.

The bottom line of this blog is that you can easily go for a drink at a hotel – even when you don’t stay there. And when you are in Brussels, The Dominican can definitely not be ignored, even when you are a bit on a budget. Go have a look the next time you are in the neighbourhood. Indulge yourself in the design, drinks, and lovely ambiance. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

P.S. They just redesigned their website so make sure to have a look online too.
