Cosplayer of the Month: Dreams Beyond Cosplay

Dreams It’s been a while since I’ve had this item on the blog but it’s back with a Cosplayer of the Month May. I love exploring the world of cosplay, even though I don’t really cosplay myself. But I wanted to put some people in the spotlight who do an amazing job with it but hardly get the attention they deserve. So every month I will put one cosplayer in the spotlight. Together with the cosplayer I will select my/their favourite cosplay and use that as a base to interview them! Cosplayer of May: Dreams Beyond Cosplay.

Can you tell a little something about yourself and how/why you got into cosplay?

I am Annelie, 24 and living in this really small village called ’t Harde in The Netherlands. I first started cosplay without knowing it was cosplay tjhat I was doing. This was around 6/7 years ago. I attended Elfia for the first time and wanted a costume, so my grandpa’s wife helped me out making a Harry Potter robe and I collected the rest together.
Over the years I improved that costume, commissioned a dress and about a year and a half ago I really got into cosplay, making things myself, pick characters etc. etc. Its such great fun, crawling into somebody else their skin and getting your creative vibe going and putting your heart and soul into it.

You mentioned to me that your current favourite cosplay is your Alice in Wonderland cosplay. Can you explain why?
I think it is cause it’s my first proper sewing challenge. I just had to think this out from scratch, make the dress from scratch and all that. Besides she is my very first Disney princess and I have a soft spot for Disney and their princesses, especially originals like Alice. Besides, Alice is as curious as I am with a wild imagination that fits me perfectly to.

I’ve had the honour of doing photoshoots a couple of times now (and hopefully more will follow)! What do you like most about cosplay photoshoots?
Being able to showcase your cosplay, not only for your own and the photographers’ portfolio, but also to give the costume like a proper environment. You can do it in your backyard with a timer, but it’s never going to be as good as somebody else take the photograph. It’s just something magical and not something that can be described into a lot of detail. It’s something you have to experience for yourself I think.

Is there a specific cosplay & cosplay convention that is very high on your wishlist (given that time, money, skills etc. is no issue)?
Cosplay, not really, but I would love to do some big armour project, which Is on my list now for mcm october. So that is happening 😀 Euhm, Cons, I have to say San Diego Comic Con, just to have seen and experience it and well I am a big fangirl, so the opportunity to be able to meet some celebs from your favorite shows is also there, wich gives it a double bonus.dreams3

What do you think the future is holding out for you? Are you working on any cosplays at this moment you are set to finish during the year?
For the future, damn I don’t have a clue. Just gain more followers on Facebook, keep doing what I do, maybe finally land that fulltime job so I can do more cons and complicated costumes. Yes that;s a good one hahaha.
I am currently working on one and have two on the list to start as well, but one of those three is Captain America, USO Girl and I want to debut her during Amsterdam Film and Comic Con. Very nervous for that but excited. I normally dont do that much boobs and legs hahaha.

Is there any advice you want to give to (newbie) cosplayers?
Do what you love to do, don’t let anything hold you back, no matter what size, length, skin colour, gender etc etc you are. You can do this to and you should do it as well. Be you, people will love you for being you.
Also never be afraid to ask advice, we all started from the bottom.

Alice & Fem! Roy Harper photos are my own, all other cosplay photos belong to the rightful owners.

Thank you very much for being on the blog today Annelie! It was lovely having you. Make sure to follow her on Facebook to see more of her (future) cosplays!
