Amsterdam Kookt @ Oosterpark

Amsterdam Kookt

The sun is finally shining! Or well..it has been shining. It’s The Netherlands, the weather changes here more often than I care for. The more reason to soak up the sun when you can though. What better way to celebrate the good weather with great food, music and lovely company? So, I spend my sunny Sunday with my sister at the festival Amsterdam Kookt! Amsterdam Kookt is a music & food festival which takes places three times during the summer, obviously in Amsterdam. All three festivals take place on different locations and the last one was at the Oosterpark, situated in the eastern part of the city.

We arrived at the park around 2 with absolutely perfect weather. The sun was out and there was a nice breeze of wind. We strolled around the festival for a little to get an idea of all the different kinds of food trucks. Honestly, by the time we had passed by half of it, I had forgotten the first ones. Simply too many impressions! Luckily the park provided for more than enough space to lounge around and to think about the choices ahead of us. We opted for frozen yoghurt first, one healthier one with fresh fruit and one which was an ultimate guilty pleasure: Dutch Stroopwafel, chocolate, nuts and caramel! And this was only an afternoon snack 😉

I ate something I hadn’t have before for dinner, namely Vuurbrood (translated: Fire Bread). This is a stuffed bread baked in a double-sided iron pan. Different kinds of filling are possible, mine was with cheese and pulled porc – jum! Dessert consisted of a mixed French/Dutch cheese platter. I’m not the biggest fan of every type of cheese (e.g. blue cheeses), but I really enjoyed the goat brie. And what do you get when you’ve had a main course and dessert? Yup, get chocolate. Johnny Doodle’s food truck had so many different varieties, it was hard to choose. I think “Dark Salty Fudge” is my favourite for now.

Apart from very good food, there was great music as well. It was so relaxing to have the live music playing in the background. There was a lovely mix of covers and own music, a perfect fit with the relaxing atmosphere at the festival. If you want to go to a foodfestival in Amsterdam, there is one more edition of Amsterdam Kookt coming up 4th – 7th of August. Keep an eye out for their website.
