“I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.”

Lisbon

I’m back from my holiday to Lisbon, and it’s been a blast! It was my first time in Portugal and I will definitely be back again (Porto is high on my bucket list). We flew from Amsterdam straight to Lisbon, from where it is only a short ride to the city centre. We stayed at a simple pension, but located perfectly – close to Rossio square. In this blog I’ll share with you how to get around the city and the things we’ve visited. I’ll be back soon with other blogs about food recommendations & excursions (outside of Lisbon).

Knokke and Oostende were already featured on the blog, but Belgium has more beach cities to offer! While I lived in Belgium for 5 months, I visited many of them. While some of the larger cities might seem a logical choice to go for – and don’t get me wrong they are – the smaller places offer so much as well. They each have their own charm. Combining a visit to different places in one day/weekend is very much possible as well. I will tell you more about that later on in this blog.

Edinburgh

Edinburgh is such a beautiful city. Has any of you ever been there? No, yes? Either way, it is definitely worth to visit. Today in this photo diary I’m sharing a few of my favourite spots (which also happen to be photogenetic, hihi). Please let me know in the comments if I’ve missed out on your favourite spot in Edinburgh!

EdinburghThe Royal Mile is of course one of the nr. 1 places to go to, and for good reason. The buildings are beautiful.

Shoot!

Unfortunately at this point the book is only for sale in Dutch.

While exploring the world, I love to take photographs to capture certain memories – that beautiful beach, an amazing cosplay at a convention, or that irresistible plate of pasta. In order to keep improving I’m glad to browse for practical tips and utilise those in new photos I make. Recently, I received the Dutch book Shoot! by Anki Wijnen from my sister. It’s a practical photography book with many tips and challenges to further your skills.

Exploringtheworld

Running to catch your train to get to work. Piling through the enormous amount of homework. Appointment after appointment…When you rush through life it’s hard to really appreciate it. For many, travelling and exploring is a way to escape the craziness of life. But beauty can also be found in the smaller things in life. And that is one of many reasons I love the below quote from actress Helena Bonham-Carter so much!

“I think everything in life is art. What you do. How you dress. The way you love someone, and how you talk. Your smile and your personality. What you believe in, and all your dreams. The way you drink your tea. How you decorate your home. Or party. Your grocery list. The food you make. How your writing looks. And the way you feel. Life is art.”

Oostende

I already wrote about Knokke, a city at the Belgian coastline, before. This city is all about “seeing people and being seen”. Oostende is another city which is situated near the Belgian beaches, but it is completely different from Knokke. To me, Oostendeis much more down to earth. It doesn’t make it any less exciting to visit than Knokke, you just go there for other reasons.

Icehotel

Bucket lists are usually quite endless, so is mine. Whether it is regarding restaurants I still want to visit, countries I want to go to, or things I want to experience…almost every day I can add something new to the list. One thing that has been on the list for a long time is visiting an ice hotel or bar. In Sweden there is the amazing Iceotel in Jukkasjärvi, which is situated in the far north of Sweden. Founded in 1989 it is the world’s first hotel that was made out of snow and ice. Cool right? (Quite literally 😉 )

Knokke

Slowly, the sun is starting to show itself more. The temperature is creeping up a little bit and it is putting me in a pre-summer mood (yes, I know it’s only just spring!). Something that fits with all of this is the beach. Over the last two years I’ve visited many different spots at the Belgian coastline. All of them are situated in the same country, but all so clearly different from each other. Whether you are looking for a place to lay at the beach and relax or if you want to go to the best of the best beach club – Belgium has a place for you! I’ll spend a couple of blog posts on Belgian cities situated at the coast the upcoming time. First up: Knokke.

Toukoul

Every part of the world, every country, they all have their own cuisines and dishes. Have any of you ever tried the Ethiopian cuisine? I hadn’t until 2 years ago when I lived in Brussels. We went out for a goodbye party of a colleague and she had picked the restaurant Toukoul. Most of us had never tried any Ethiopian food so it was a bit of a guess, but it turned out to be delicious! Toukoul is situated at rue du Marronnier, which is close to Place Saint-Catherine, in the centre of Brussels. Easy to reach when you are in the city centre, so really no reason not go.

Borough Market

Time for another London post. There is simply so much to show and write about from this city. It is easily one of my favourite cities in Europe. I’ve already shared some foodie places from my visit to London and I want to add another one: Borough Market. British cuisine isn’t the most refined (or healthy) and I wouldn’t necessarily associate it with wholesome food or organic products. But they know their way around those kind of products on markets. Borough market is a good example.
